The count is back. In high-resolution.
It's awful to see a fancy modern trailer for this great classic movie featuring Christopher Lee in a somewhat career-defining role. The flashy rhythm and focus on one-liners of a contemporary trailer it totally inadequate for a more than 60 years old production.
But the good news is that the film looks better than ever, and apparently contains some very rarely seen footage. According to the video description, this director's cut is the same as the original 1958 Japanese theatrical release, including some scenes "deemed too shocking for UK and US audiences at the time". It'll be interesting to see what these scenes are, because there have been previous releases that claimed to restore the film to its uncut form. Are we talking about footage that has already been available outside the UK and US? Are we talking about actual unseen scenes, or mere seconds, maybe just frames that have been restored?
Anyway - what has certainly been restored, is the picture quality. This is probably the closest you'll ever get to a perfect master copy of the original film strip. Great stuff, for both the Hammer-horror-newbie, and the adept Dracula-geek!
